WHAT THEY WERE THINKING: QBISM

qbism The connection between designer Qunetin Nghiem’s line QBISM and the work of Cubists like Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, and Robert and Sonia Delaunay is clear. After all QBISM = Quentin + Cubism. What you might be surprised to find out is the influence patterned floors also have on the designer. According to the Nghiem, the 3D cube on the Cube Patchwork Crewneck Sweatshirt originated from patterns of old stone floors found in kitchens, bars, shops, and churches. Today, the floors of the Basilica San Marco in Venice is are an example of this motif. For this piece, corduroy, denim and leather were combined to create a 3D cube, mimicking both the art movement and the tiled floors seen below.
