WHAT I DID THIS WEEKEND: JENNIFER IN THE CATSKILLS

By Jennifer Orlowski

A quick trip up to the Catskills for a Sunday afternoon hike up Kaaterskill Falls proved challenging to my survival skills when my car refused to turn on while practically teetering on the edge of a skinny mountain road. After hours of no cell service and climbing the mountain higher and higher to get a signal, state troopers and a local with a tow truck threw it on the flat bed and brought it into town. Sunday night in the middle of nowhere is quite desolate, and with absolutely no way to get back to NYC I was left to stay over night and accidentally explore the town of Tannersville, NY. Quite surprised by the treasures of the small ‘town’ (about 5 buildings and a church), I discovered more than I expected to with delicious home-cooked food in the local resturants, a cheap little bar chock full of locals, and an overview of the most beautiful mountains at the peak of autumn, being stranded in the middle of nowhere proved to be quite the adventure.
