STYLE.COM VIDEO FASHION WEEK: OAK FW15 STARRING R.O.C.

ROC

On February 22nd, 2015 we filmed NYC-based dance crew R.O.C. (led by the incomparable Boogiee) dancing on location at Times Square Station. Directed by our friend Anita Brathwaite, and featuring a soundtrack by Bottoms, this entire process was truly a collaboration that highlights three emerging artists with incredible stories and messages. Watch the video below, or on style.com.

R.O.C. are a “freestyle artist collective” that perform at subway stations, squares, and other public spaces around NYC. In the male-dominated world of street dancing, Boogiee, an outspoken, openly gay young woman, is not only part of the R.O.C. crew, she is their leader. She is a remarkable performer and organizer with a remarkable story who daily entertains and inspires masses through a form of street art native to the streets and subway tunnels of this city.

Anita Brathwaite is a Brooklyn Based visual artist. Since she was a child photography has always been her passion. She describes her photography as spontaneous snapshots, that are meant to document the world around her. Anita graduated from the New School with a B.A. in Media Studies. She enjoys shooting with 35mm black & white film so she can explore the symmetry between classic, and contemporary. Anita’s prints have been displayed in group shows around the country.

Bottoms, a gender-problematizing goth dance band, is Simon Leahy, Michael Prommasit, and Jake Dibeler. Leahy, co-founder of the annual Bushwig festival, spearheaded the new “drag explosion” in the Bushwick nightlife scene. Leahy’s prior band, teeth, has been toured internationally. Dibeler is a performance artist whose work touches on historical anxieties surrounding gay culture. In July 2014 they were picked up by JD Samson’s new label Atlas Chair. Atlas Chair will be releasing bottom’s debut EP “GOODBYE” in January 2015.
