While this week was all about the LA kids taking over at OAK, our New Yorker who has most called LA a second home over the past year or so is Alicia Rae. Here’s her guide to the city (and then some) in her own photos and words…

By Alicia Rae

Get weird here… No one gives a shit. Its great, People just smile at you and say hi. Don’t worry, you will get used to it.

LA FLOAT CENTER. Mario took me here and it is the best! I floated for a hour… half the time I was just laughing out loud and the other half hallucinating in space. Top of the experience with a trip to the oxygen bar. TIP- If you are doing research on this DO NOT watch any videos about Joe Rogan and his love of the float.

HIKING IN OJAI
. Ojai is a dream. There are so many places to hike here. We did the Murietta Trail which apparently you used to be able to access the Hot Springs that everyone used to hang out at but are now closed. No Bigs, This trail is still totally great… Weird rocks, Snakes, Lavender, Peacock sanctuary, Mountains, rivers the whole Sha-bang. On your way home eat at the Deer Lodge. If this restaurant was in my neighborhood I would live here… and I am pretty sure you would too.

LAKE SHRINE. This place is just plain beautiful. Peaceful? Uhhhh There are still a ton of people taking selfies and being loud but its still great. The little museum is rad and offers alot of information. I did not actually take a class here but I hear they are great. Afterwards, drive down the PCH and stop at a fish shack to watch the sunset.

HOUSE OF INTUITION
. I went here once a week to buy rocks, crystals, incense etc. Whatever they were selling I was buying. The staff is really great and the store is open pretty late so its great for after happy hour pre-dinner drunk shopping.

Take a trip to the Desert Hot Springs… LA is great because getting out of the city is SO easy and There really are so many places to go That are “close”. Angelenos always say ‘about a hour a way” But who cares when the scenery is this pretty.

LIDO PALMS. The kids at the stores turned me on to the Desert Hot Springs “resorts”. The “resorts” are in row housing neighborhoods and the actual town feels like the set for a new dark, and disturbing Harmony Korine movie. But as soon as you walk through the gate, there is a great 70’s dessert vibe. Lots of natural hot springs, palm trees, tempurpedic beds and real life roadrunners.

JOSHUA TREE AND PIONEER TOWN. These are both musts to me. Joshua Tree is clearly just incredible and a sight that everyone should see… even if its just through your car window. Pioneer Town is real close by. Get some BBQ at the famous Pappy and Harriets and walk around what actually is a old western set where weirdos and artists live now. COOL!
