sally lapointe: backstage a/w 2011

Sally LaPointe is a Massachusetts native, who after graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design, relocated to NYC to launch her groundbreaking, cutting-edge collection. LaPointe earned its notoriety after being picked up by Lady Gaga’s stylist Nicola Formichetti, who has dressed Gaga in LaPointe ever since. Pushing the boundaries of fashion to the maximum, LaPointe’s designs are described as being conceptual and avant-garde. The aggressively structured pieces of well-tailored silhouettes and contrasting textures have truly reinvented the sci-fi look and it is no surprise that several LaPointe pieces have become some of Gaga’s staples.

The Sally LaPointe collection for Fall2011 is inspired by photographic development and colour processing, and features head-to-toe monochromatic silver, red, blue, and black. As seen on the runways at NY fashion week, LaPointe’s second collection evolved with new approach and brought fluid looks to this seasons line that included draped dresses, trousers and blazers. The line also remained true to its core structured aesthetic, which was highlighted by LaPointe’s signature strong-shouldered jackets in herringbone, satin and leather.
