OFF THE WALL: YAYOI KUSAMA “I WHO HAVE ARRIVED IN HEAVEN”

SAMSUNG CSC

Yayoi Kusama’s latest exhibit I Who Have Arrived in Heaven (her first at David Zwirner’s galleries on 19th street in Chelsea), felt like a celebration of life and showed no indications that the Japanese artist was slowing down eight decades into her career. Known for her bright colors, patterns, and to many for her recent collaboration with Louis Vuitton, Kusama’s work is as full of life as ever with the exhibit greeting visitors with thirty new large scale paintings from the artist. Our favorites were the tonal works which featured paint on metallic canvases that radiated off the wall as light poured in through the galleries’ giant skylights. Also on display are two of the artists’ famed “Infinity Rooms.”
