OAK SPRING ANTHEM: GABRIELLE APLIN “PLEASE DON’T SAY YOU LOVE ME (CYRIL HAHN REMIX)”

To us, the best remixes take an unexpected song, and completely rework and re-fragment it into a finished product that stands on its own. That’s exactly what happened when Cyril Hahn got his hands on Gabrielle Aplin’s folk pop ballad “Please Don’t Say You Love Me”. With a total reconstruction of the song’s layout, and genre-crossing production, Cyril Hahn took “Please…”, a mellow pop offering about love and insecurity that wouldn’t feel out of place on the current Top 40, and transformed it into a dark, club-ready dance anthem. With Aplin’s vocals altered from light and sweet, to somber and deep, the minor key change, and pumping synths (complete with 90s-era “woo!” effects at around 3:20), Cyril Han’s remix adds another layer of emotion to the song, and drives home the songwriter’s message harder than ever, a true accomplishment for any producer.
