OAK SPRING ANTHEM: ARTHUR RUSSELL “THIS IS HOW WE WALK ON THE MOON (YOUTH RETURN TO BASE EDIT)”

Notorious for leaving songs unfinished, and constantly revising his work, Arthur Russell lives on as an icon of experimental pop music. A fixture of the New York music scene in the late 1960s and through his passing in 1992, Russell collaborated with musicians like Philip Glass and David Byrne, and his eclectic sound spanned the genres of dance, downtown rock, new wave, and minimal pop leaving a prolific discography in his path. One of our favorite pieces from Arthur Russell is “This is How We Walk on the Moon” and additionally the Youth Return to Base edit of the song, which we think Mr. Russell, the revisionist that he was, would also quite enjoy. Check out both versions of the song below, in a special double edition of our OAK Spring Anthem series.
