From their long-awaited fourth album Random Access Memories – out tomorrow – Daft Punk’s “Doin’ It Right” featuring guest vocals from Panda Bear is indeed today’s OAK Spring Anthem, but to celebrate the release of their new record we had to give them the icon treatment. “Doin’ It Right” features an addictive melody, and stripped down production (by Daft Punk’s standards, at least), and finds the perfect balance between robot rock and a human’s touch. Panda Bear’s vocals take on other-worldly charms, yet his hook is grounded in a disco-era nostalgia, staying true to form for any Daft Punk collaboration.

Looking back at the career of the Grammy Award winning Paris-based duo, despite their retro-futuristic sounds and visuals, Daft Punk feels very much like (and were) a pre-Internet project through and through. In a day and age when album cycles can last less than a year, Daft Punk still take a significant amount of time between projects (their first full-length album, of four, came out in 1997), yet maintain to find both critical acclaim and mainstream success with their releases (their single “Get Lucky” featuring Pharrell Williams is currently in the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100). Here’s a look back at some of our favorite Daft Punk moments over the years:

Many Daft Punk fans were first exposed to the duo with “Around The World” from their album Homework.

Daft Punk returned in 2001 with Discovery and once again found success with singles like “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” which was later sampled by Kanye West.

Known for the strong visual element in their work, Daft Punk found acclaim in their music videos as well, with clips like “Technologic” from their album Human After All.

In 2007, Daft Punk released their second live album Alive 2007 featuring fan favorites like “One More Time.”
