NYFW: PARKCHOONMOO SS14

3O6A0825

Waves was the title designer Choonmoo Park gave to her Parkchoonmoo SS14 collection, and as we waited for the show to begin in the Hoffman Hall at the Highline Hotel, there was a calm-before-the-storm feeling in the air. Then it was lights up, as electronic beats swiftly ushered the models down the runway. The collection was all about the balance between the playfulness at the surface of the water and journeying to the depths below. The references to the ocean were strong with flowing silks in blue and black, textured mesh pieces that reminded us of fishermen’s nets, and sheer plastic capes and wraps that brought bubbles to mind. Signature Parkchoonmoo draping was present, with sheer blocking on asymmetrical dresses. Futuristic elements were also mixed in through techy iridescent fabrics and silver highlights.
