NYFW: CHRIS HABANA SS14

3O6A1274-22

With a soundtrack designed by DJ Michael Magnan, Chris Habana showed his SS14 collection last night in an upstairs studio at Chelsea Market. Typically, entering a room to “Bachelorette” by Bjork is a sign of good things to come, and the presentation definitely didn’t disappoint. Named Tectonic for drawing its inspiration from linear seismic readings, geomorphic shifting plates, and Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures, the collection was presented on a semi-circle of models (referred to by the designer as tribespeople), mostly nude, each painted in gold leaf and silver and underlit by a single fluorescent light. A departure from his more colorful Strange Fruit collection, metal tones were back for spring, and fresh takes on Chris Habana classics like the nose/ear cuff and caged bracelets were also present.
