NYFW: ASSEMBLY SS14

Industrial beats banged and crashed at the appropriately named Industria Superstudios in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District as the Assembly SS14 runway presentation began. Designer Greg Armas called his collection “Extreme Sports” and influences ranged from scuba diving and “racing fast cars and maintaining an autonomy and independence in motion” to the way Marcel Duchamp captured movement in Nude Descending. Armas successfully took attendees through a 70s, 80s and 90s “best of” with color-blocking, oversized gold cuffs, rose gold, pinstripes, neons, high pony tails, visor sunglasses, and the yin yang, giving at times a retro-futuristic vibe to the futurism he was reflecting off the metallic silver draping that lined the makeshift catwalk. As for extreme sporting? The models looked sleek, streamlined, and unified in the collection like one seriously badass team.
