INTERVIEW: JAMES IDOWU

OAK is always interested in what the New York City kids are wearing, and whats circulating in the streets. After meeting James Idowu in the OAK Bond st. shop, wearing his own Blessed cap, we were interested in carrying the caps for our customers. The relationship with this young photographer and artist started there. Here is our interview with the designer:
“My love for music and fashion has always been a factor in my life. They are also two factors that made me create the “Blessed Hats”. Around June i was listening to a song called Blessed by  ScHoolboy Q ft Kendrick Lamar, which has been on repeat since January, and I felt like a Blessed Hat in old english font was needed in the market. I wanted to make a hat that was unisex where the consumers could also feel like what they were wearing was a part of them. I believe everyone is blessed even if you don’t have some kind of talent… at least your blessed enough to wake up everyday right?”
OAK: What brands do you like?
I honestly stopped caring about brands, I just love pieces that look appealing with no logos or outer tags “shouting” at you.
I hate people that look like walking billboards.
OAK: Who do you think the biggest influencers are in the streetwear world?
Biggest influencers in the streetwear world and high fashion world to me would be Kanye West, Virgil Abloh , Curt@!n$ , Asaad , A$AP Bari , Ibn Jasper and A$AP Rocky.
Alot of people wouldn’t be wearing the brands they wear, or have worn if it wasn’t for these influencers.
OAK: What is the future of your brand?
My brand is going to become something everyone remembers and hears of, everybody should just be on alert !
OAK: What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
” Don’t Go Broke Tryna Look Rich “
