OAK: What initially attracted you to leather goods?

FLORIAN DENICOURT: The sensuality, the touch of the leather, and the conception of the pieces, the shapes, and 3D work.

OAK: What are you currently listening to?

FD: Electro, or classic 60’s and 70’s.

OAK: How would you describe a typical day in your studio?

FD: Working on bags and shoes, checking materials, following up with suppliers for samples.

OAK: In three words, describe the Florian Denicourt brand.
FD: Androgyny. Minimalism. Graphic.

OAK: What’s your favorite restaurant in Paris?

FD: Home cooking.

OAK: The inspiration images you sent over include a path of Great Wave off the Coast of Kanagawa by Hokusai, multi-colored neon lights, a can of water, the beach, and big open studio spaces. How do these relate to one-another, and how do they speak to the collection?

FD: The theme is winter surfing, sea-foam, and waves… It’s all about geometric shapes, colors, and textures.

OAK: What are you hoping to accomplish in 2015?
FD: Keep on growing.

OAK: What other artists, designers, public figures inspire you and why?

FD: Jeff Koons [because of the] Giantism and Shapes [in his work]. Steve Mcqueen [because he’s the] King of Cool.

OAK: What do you do for fun when you aren’t working?

FD: Driving my motorcycle and babysitting.
