IN THE HOOD: ROCHESTER – HOUSE OF GUITARS

Every time I’m in my hometown of Rochester, NY I make it a point to stop by the House of Guitars. It’s a mess of a place, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Upstairs at the HOG you can shop rare and hard to find instruments with a staff who really know their shit, making it the go-to place for legit bands (Black Sabbath, Metallica and The Ramones to name a few) to get their gear since 1964. The basement is the coolest record store on Earth where piles of CDs and vinyl clash against promotional memorabilia and pop culture relics.

What: House of Guitars

When: Monday thru Saturday 10AM – 9PM, Sunday 1PM – 5PM.

Where: 645 Titus Avenune in Rochester, NY.

Who: Founded by brothers Armand, Bruce and Blaine Schaubroek in 1964.

How: Take a weekend trip upstate.

Why: “House of Guitars is Cooler than Hollywood.”
