HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM OAK + TYLER SPANGLER

tylerblog

Last Halloween, we spoke with our friend – and Oakazine contributor – Tyler Spangler about his artwork in our Mixed Medium series. This year, he’s created special Halloween editorial and product images for us as part of our 30% Off OAK Outerwear, Leather + Sweaters weekend sale. This week we caught up with Tyler about this year’s Halloween plants and more.

OAK: Halloween is a special day for you. Last year, it was your anniversary with your girlfriend, but I’m hearing now you’ve been married since?
TYLER SPANGLER: Yes! We met at a Halloween party 6 years ago. I actually proposed to her on Halloween last year. We were dressed as Wayne and Garth.

OAK: Aside from marriage, what else is new in your life one year later?
TS: I have a ton of new surfboards that I am super stoked on. We just built a new deck in our backyard.

OAK: What do you have planned for this year’s Halloween?
TS: Since it is our anniversary and Halloween we have decided to utilize our new deck in a romantic way. We are going to eat pizza, sushi, Thai, and candy at midnight while watching old horror movies surrounded by candles.

OAK: Other than Halloween, what’s your favorite holiday and why?
TS: Christmas. I love the cold weather, food, and presents.

OAK: What’s your favorite scary movie?
TS: Nightmare on Elm Street. I love the surrealism and body mutation. Also, it has just enough 80s cheese without being ridiculous.

OAK: What’s your favorite Rom-Com?
TS: Along Came Polly. Sandy Lyle is amazing.

OAK: Your submission to Oakazine closed out our issue, with your “One Big Traffic Jam” piece. If you had to extend your feelings towards LA to four additional words, what would they be?
TS: Way too many people.
