CHECK OUT: LIQUID SKY AT ANTHOLOGY FILM ARCHIVES TONIGHT

Tonight at 8:45 Anthology Film Archives welcomes filmmaker Slava Tsukerman, who will be here in person to present this special screening of his cult classic, LIQUID SKY! A science-fiction fantasy with a wonderfully smutty premise: unseen aliens, searching for heroin, land in their tiny flying saucer on the roof of a downtown apartment building and attach themselves to Margaret, a New Wave fashion model whose friends use lots of smack. But the aliens, it turns out, are greedy; they also want a euphoria-inducing chemical secreted by the brain during orgasm, a chemical somewhat similar to heroin. The movie becomes even funnier when you reflect that it was made by a group of Soviet émigrés: the filmmakers, like the aliens, are explorers seeking out exotic pleasures denied them in their own arid homeland.

Above, one of the best fashion show scenes to ever be in a movie (of course apart from Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead.)
