it started with a vintage pair of titmus frames. they were eyeglasses for a factory worker. designer and fellow brooklynite matthew costa popped the coke-bottle-lenses out and put in some tints…gave those to a friend and she looked totally awesome. and so became the brand “costalots” which reversed the fate of the titmus shapes; maximizing their potential as sunglasses.
the beauty of the shades are inherent in the simplicity of both shapes/styles. it’s some sort of neutrality or understated, under-wrought(factory-drudgery) that allows the person wearing them to shine.
