just in: salvor

March 15, 2010

upon seeing salvor project’s ss10 collection in person, it’s easy to see why they recently won the prestigious ecco domani fashion fund award. salvor’s take on complex yet wearable shapes with the use of their trademark prints gets better each season. using the finest italian jersey and hand-screening each garment in new york, each piece is one of a kind and imbued with character that is hard to find elsewhere.

fall preview: silent by damir doma

after launching the organic & honest collection for s/s 2010, see the new step of damir doma’s silent coming next fall to oak.

director alessandro tinelli was inspired by the new silent collection to express the ambiguous, yet enduring play of silence and sound in an urban area. the infinite composition of resonance and stillness is a confrontation of quietude and chaos, of solitude surrounded by human activity and the roaring sound of the city. an intensifying silence explodes and leaves us in a state of pacifying purity.

Ann-Sofie Back has jumped the gun. Though she’s been signed on as creative director at Cheap Monday since 2009, thanks to the plan-ahead cycles of fashion, her first full collections aren’t due until Spring ‘11. That doesn’t mean you have to wait to get Back. The designer has created capsule additions to the Cheap Monday ranges for both men and women for Spring and Fall, the first of which is bowing now. Think of the new pieces as a teaser, one that New Yorkers can check out on Thursday night, when A.OK the basement shop at the Bond Street location of Oak, which marks the U.S. debut of Back’s designs for the Scandinavian label.

March 9, 2010

mary meyer debuts her first ever men’s collection at oak; translating her signature graphics and comfortable jersey basics into effortlessly cool separates. for spring 2010 she takes the concept of visual language literally and creates her own with graphic prints of phrases like high on love coded in symbols; thinking that “everyone wants so say something, but no one really wants so be defined by or subscribe to anything.” new distressed print treatments and stonewashed jersey pants keep things fresh and also say quite a bit.
