POP SOUK – Shopping Joy with Alicia

May 11, 2012

In less than 24 hours we’ll be sipping cocktails and seeking out the most fabulous fashion finds with Ladyfag and friends at Pop Souk.  Tomorrow afternoon New York’s most talented designers, artists, and nightlife fixtures turn Greenhouse into a two-floor shopping extravaganza with Lady’s favorite DJs spinning and iconic London designer Pam Hogg selling rare archival pieces. Come explore, refresh your spring wardrobe, and say “Hi!” We can’t wait to see the look on your face when you see what we’ve got – just ask Alicia, who’s trained her eyes to spot for the perfect piece from across the room with routine bird watching:

Please state your name, current location, and occupation: Alicia Hogan, Williamsburg, Oak’s Retail Director

And your current preoccupation?

I am currently preoccupied by the birds that come to my bird feeder every day. They all have different personalities and looks…. the male Blue Jay is really, really loud and pushy. All the other birds leave when he comes by because they would rather starve then deal with him. His girlfriend is quiet… you start to feel bad for her because you know she has to deal with that shit at home. The Finches run in packs, and the Cardinal couple is really chic.

Why did you choose to participate in Pop Souk and what are you looking forward to? I like to see people’s reaction to finding things they genuinely find amazing….. It’s so much more satisfying then just selling your things on the inter web or dropping it off somewhere. I am looking forward to seeing all my friends having fun! Duh!

What can we expect to see from your closet? I am selling all sorts of clothing. I have worked at OAK for about 6 years now and have quite the collection. Fifth Ave Shoe Repair, Vibskov, Bernard, Grey Ant, Complex Geometries, Wang…. That’s really just a few names though. It’s gonna make people really happy.

What’s the one piece in your closet you would never give up? I have a few of those pieces…. But definitely never my leather jacket… It completes me.

OAK RECOMMENDS: FIXED at Le Bain

Tonight: FIXED returns to Le Bain. It’s one of Dave P’s favorite spots to rage all night long. Ours too. See you there.

POP SOUK – What’s In Store with Louis of OAK

May 10, 2012

Excitement for Pop Souk continues to build! We’ll be busy curating the best of the bunch from the Oak family closets over the next two days, and we can’t wait to mix with curious shoppers and friends alike. Today, checking in with Louis on what he’s looking forward to this Saturday –

Please state your name and occupation:
Louis Terline; Co-owner Oak

And your current preoccupation in life/culture/design/art?
Ice Cream

The inaugural Pop Souk last fall was a veritable goldmine for fashion treasure hunters – what are you looking forward to for the spring iteration?
It’s a party mixed with shopping. A party mixed with shopping.

What are you planning on selling?
Some of my favorite things. I’ve been streamlining for a while. But I saved some really great stuff for the end.

Streamlining is tough, but resisting the urge to peruse the other pop-ups is totally futile. Are you planning on replenishing your closet?
I always say no….but always leave with stuff. I can’t wait to see what some of the other vendors have – there really is going to be a room full of NY’s most talented there.

What’s the one piece in your closet you would never give up?
My Dries van Noten soft blazer – I’ve had it since high school (but I never say never).

Having Fun: Pop Souk

In preparation for Pop Souk this Saturday everyone at the Oak offices has been going through their closets (and the bags everyone else has been dropping off) and when the amazing Ladyfag herself stopped by the studio we couldn’t help but throw together an impromptu photoshoot. Shot by Jason Rodgers and styled by Louis with the help of one of Lady’s favorite wigs and perfect makeup by pop souk co-sponsor Face Stockholm, we channeled the nineties and had a great time. And, of course, it will all be for sale this Saturday at Pop Souk.
